Bank of Botetourt considers monetary donation and sponsorship requests from eligible nonprofit organizations working to strengthen local communities. The Bank prioritizes requests that support health, education, community service, youth activities, cultural initiatives, special community projects, and environmental efforts in the Virginia communities it serves.

About the Funder

Bank of Botetourt has supported community organizations throughout its 125-year history. Through its donation request program, the Bank seeks to further its involvement in the communities it serves while helping nonprofit organizations address local needs. Because requests are high, Bank of Botetourt uses giving guidelines to help evaluate requests and assist as many organizations as possible.

What This Program Supports

Bank of Botetourt may consider monetary donations and sponsorships that benefit one or more of the following purposes:

Health
Programs and initiatives that support community health and wellbeing.

Education
Efforts that strengthen educational opportunities, learning outcomes, or access to educational resources.

Community Service
Projects and programs that provide direct service or benefit to local residents.

Youth Activities
Initiatives that support children, youth development, enrichment, mentorship, or positive youth engagement.

Cultural
Programs that promote arts, culture, heritage, or community enrichment.

Special Community Projects
Local projects that address community needs, improve quality of life, or support civic benefit.

Environmental
Programs or projects focused on environmental stewardship, conservation, or related community benefit.

Eligible Support Types

Monetary donations
Sponsorship requests
Community-focused charitable support

Eligibility & Preferences

Monetary donations and sponsorships may only be considered for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Priority is given to organizations that foster growth and development in the following Virginia communities:

Botetourt County
Rockbridge County
Roanoke County
Franklin County
City of Salem
Town of Vinton

Additional criteria include:

Organizations must be not-for-profit
An exempt status number must be included with the request
Donations are made on a relative need basis
Groups with greater need may receive priority
Bank of Botetourt may review requests on a case-by-case basis

Ineligible Requests

Bank of Botetourt does not consider donation requests for:

Individuals
Religious groups, except those with a full-service banking relationship with the Bank
Political parties, candidates, or causes
Incomplete applications
Requests submitted with inadequate notification

Funding Amounts

Bank of Botetourt does not publish standard donation or sponsorship amounts. Funding decisions are based on alignment with the Bank’s giving guidelines, community priorities, relative need, available budget, and other review factors.

📅 Review Process: Bank of Botetourt reviews requests and may contact applicants for additional information

During the review process, a Bank representative may request more information, arrange a meeting, or schedule a site visit to discuss the project. Once the review is complete, the Bank will determine whether the request is approved or declined.

A declined request does not necessarily mean the program is not worthy or needed. It may simply mean the request does not align with the Bank’s current giving guidelines or priorities, or that funds are not available based on budget limitations.
