Project Funding for Community Safety, Resilience, and Emergency Preparedness
Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability for its employees, customers, and the communities it serves. Through the Community Safety Grants program, BGE invests in nonprofit-led projects that enhance neighborhood safety, strengthen community resilience, and promote collaboration with emergency responders.
This program supports projects that deliver measurable improvements to quality of life and help communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from urgent safety and environmental challenges.

Geographic Eligibility
Projects must be located within BGE’s Maryland service territory, which includes communities across:
- Baltimore City
- Baltimore County
- Anne Arundel County
- Prince George’s County
- Howard County
- Montgomery County
- Harford County
- Carroll County
- Frederick County
- Cecil County
- Calvert County
This includes the greater Baltimore–Annapolis–Columbia–Silver Spring region and surrounding suburban and rural areas served by BGE. Applicants must confirm that their project site falls within an eligible BGE service ZIP code.
Eligible Applicants
Applicants must:
- Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
- Propose a project located within BGE’s service territory
- Demonstrate collaboration with emergency responders or relevant community partners
- Submit a project-specific budget detailing use of grant funds
Ineligible Requests
BGE will not fund:
- Basic operating expenses
- Capital projects
- Organizations that receive a Community Safety Grant in 2026 (one grant per organization per year)
Focus Areas & Priority Strategies
Community Spaces & Public Safety
Projects that improve shared spaces to promote safety and community engagement, including:
- Alley lighting
- Shared public spaces
- Public safety events
- Other placemaking strategies
Safe & Supportive Spaces for Individuals
Programs that enhance physical, mental, and emotional safety, such as:
- Education or outreach promoting safe spaces
- Mediation
- Trauma-informed care
- Youth diversion or youth development
- Home fire, carbon monoxide, and natural gas safety education
- Smoke detection and fire prevention awareness
Emergency Preparedness & Community Resilience
Initiatives that strengthen preparedness and response capacity, including:
- Climate change prevention and mitigation
- First aid and emergency response training
- Flooding, stormwater, and water infrastructure solutions
- Water safety and sustainable water management
- Heat reduction efforts
- Energy efficiency solutions
- Air quality improvement
- Emergency response education and outreach
- Resiliency hub supplies

📅 Application Deadline: March 22, 2026 (late submissions not accepted)
📅 Notification of Awards: By June 1, 2026
📅 Project Completion Deadline: June 2, 2027
Organizations awarded a Community Safety Grant will not be eligible for another BGE grant in 2026.
