The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation offers competitive Health Priority Grants to nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and educational or research institutions working to improve health outcomes and access to care for South Carolinians. The Spring Cycle supports initiatives that advance population health, health equity, and system-level impact across the state.

Only organizations invited after the Letter of Intent review may submit a full application.


About the Funder

The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation is dedicated to improving the health of South Carolinians through strategic, evidence-informed grantmaking. The Foundation prioritizes sustainable solutions that address complex health challenges, particularly for economically vulnerable and underserved populations.


What This Program Supports

Health Priority Grants support projects that:

  • Improve access to quality health care and services
  • Strengthen health care systems and workforce capacity
  • Advance health equity and reduce disparities
  • Improve health outcomes for children, families, and vulnerable populations
  • Implement scalable, data-driven population health strategies

Priority is given to initiatives with strong community engagement, measurable outcomes, and long-term impact.


Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants include:

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
  • Government agencies
  • Educational or research institutions with tax-exempt status

Additional requirements:

  • Applicants may submit one Letter of Intent per cycle
  • Organizations may not submit an LOI if they have an active, open grant
  • Projects must directly benefit South Carolina residents

Funding Restrictions

Funding is not available for:

  • Capital construction or building projects
  • Salaries for individual health professionals
  • One-time events (e.g., camps, tournaments, conferences)
  • Fundraising events or ticket purchases
  • Individuals or for-profit entities
  • Political or religious activities
  • Indirect costs or general operating support
  • Grantmaking foundations

Application Process – Fall Cycle

  1. Submit a Letter of Intent by August 7, 2026
  2. Selected applicants are invited to submit a full application
  3. Full applications due September 18, 2026
  4. Applications undergo staff and board review
  5. Final funding decisions are communicated following board approval

Uninvited organizations may not submit full applications.
