Eligible Support Types
• Program and project funding
• Event sponsorships aligned with BMO’s priorities
• Single-year or multi-year funding requests (may be requested in one application)
Eligibility & Preferences
Eligible applicants must:
• Be a registered U.S. or Canadian charity or nonprofit
• Deliver programming in the United States or Canada
• Align clearly with BMO’s giving priorities and values
• Complete a brief eligibility assessment prior to submitting a proposal
BMO does not support organizations or activities that fall outside its eligibility guidelines or conflict with its values.
Ineligible Requests
Funding is not provided for:
• For-profit entities or individuals
• Political, partisan, or advocacy organizations
• Religious organizations (except non-denominational community programs)
• Elementary or secondary schools (with limited charitable exceptions)
• Amateur or elite sports teams or events
• Conferences or travel not part of a funded charitable program
• Crowdfunding initiatives or third-party fundraising events
• Loans, courtesy advertising, or direct mail solicitations
Timeline & Review

📅 Review Period: Proposals are reviewed following the close of the cycle
📅 Decision Timing: Responses may take several months depending on volume

New applicants must first complete a brief eligibility assessment. Once confirmed eligible, applicants may submit a proposal through BMO’s online platform. Application portals are open only during the designated cycle.
