Eligibility & Preferences
Applicants must be registered nonprofit or charitable organizations in the U.S. or Canada with programming delivered in those countries. New applicants are required to complete an eligibility screening prior to submitting a proposal.
Funding decisions are based on project merit, alignment with BMO’s priorities, and portfolio balance. Approved awards may be less than the amount requested.
Ineligible Requests
BMO does not fund:
• For-profit organizations or individuals
• Political or partisan activities
• Religious organizations (with limited exceptions)
• Sports teams or athletic events
• Tuition, membership, or registration fees
• Capital campaigns not aligned with charitable programming
• Crowdfunding or third-party fundraising efforts
