Might my organization be eligible for a Johnson Controls Foundation Grant?
The Foundation accepts grant requests from organizations whose mission and programming align with Johnson Controls Foundation’s giving priorities. Nonprofit organizations which do not have a history of Johnson Controls Foundation support are encouraged to take a self-assessment to determine likelihood of being considered for a grant.

We recommend an organization be able to respond "yes" to these questions before applying for a Foundation grant:

Guidelines to be considered for a Johnson Controls Foundation grant:

Nonprofit is requesting funding for programming that supports building smarter, healthier and more sustainable tomorrows and serves Milwaukee, another U.S. city with a strong Johnson Controls presence, or has a national or multi-community presence.
Smarter Tomorrows: Education, particularly in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math (STEAM)
Healthier Tomorrows: Health & safety, including housing and homeownership and economic mobility programs
More Sustainable Tomorrows: Environmental protection, preservation and related programs, including organizations that respond to natural disasters.
For nonprofits in Milwaukee: In September 2023, Johnson Controls Foundation announced four major grants serving Johnson Controls Neighborhoods of Focus (Havenwoods, West Lawn, Thurston Woods). The next Smart & Healthy Neighborhood grants cycle is anticipated to open in the spring of 2025.
Nonprofit is well-established, with a board of directors representing leaders in a variety of disciplines.
Nonprofit is not a K-12 school, place of worship or sports organization.
A Johnson Controls leader or philanthropy team member has given guidance to the nonprofit that a grant request would be welcomed.
If your organization meets the basic criteria for a Johnson Controls Foundation grant, you are invited to apply for a Johnson Controls Foundation grant. Please know the grant review process is rigorous and we will aim to respond to your request within 90 days following the grant cycle deadline.
