5 Min Read

Grants Supporting Food Access, Nutrition Education, Healthy Lifestyles, and Community-Based Food Programs

The Conagra Brands Foundation Community Impact Grants support nonprofit organizations working to address food insecurity and improve access to nutritious food.

For the 2027 cycle, eligible U.S.-based nonprofit organizations may submit one online Letter of Intent (LOI) between January 1 and January 31, 2027. The Foundation reviews LOIs on a rolling basis during the application period. Organizations with proposals of interest will be invited to submit a full application.

Funding Amount: Not publicly specified
Geographic Focus: U.S.-based nonprofit applicants; funded programs may serve needs worldwide

About the Funder

Conagra Brands Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Conagra Brands, one of the country’s leading branded food companies.

The Foundation focuses much of its charitable investment on combating food insecurity and strengthening communities where Conagra employees live and work.

Its grantmaking seeks to support highly effective nonprofit organizations that combine strong leadership with innovative approaches to major social challenges.

The Foundation has also supported national research and awareness initiatives related to hunger, including Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap research.

What This Program Supports

Community Impact Grants primarily support initiatives addressing food insecurity and related community needs.

Food Access

Programs that help individuals and families obtain sufficient, nutritious food may be a strong fit.

Examples may include:

  • Hunger relief initiatives
  • Food distribution
  • Food pantry programs
  • Programs expanding access to nutritious foods
  • Community-based food access strategies
  • Initiatives addressing barriers to food security

Nutrition Education

The Foundation supports efforts that help individuals and families develop knowledge and skills related to nutrition and healthy eating.

Programs may include:

  • Nutrition education
  • Healthy eating education
  • Food literacy
  • Community nutrition programs
  • Educational initiatives connected to food access

Cooking Skills

Programs that teach practical cooking and food preparation skills are another core area of interest.

Strong programs may combine access to healthy food with education that helps participants confidently prepare nutritious meals.

Healthy & Active Lifestyles

The Foundation also considers initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles and improve community wellbeing.

Programs should demonstrate a meaningful connection between healthy living, nutrition, food access, or the Foundation’s broader efforts to address food insecurity.

Urban Agriculture

Select urban agriculture programs may qualify when they have a clear community focus.

The Foundation is particularly interested in programs that:

  • Expand community access to fresh produce
  • Build practical skills
  • Provide entrepreneurial opportunities
  • Help participants engage in the farm-to-fork economy

This could make the program especially relevant for community gardens, urban farms, food entrepreneurship programs, and related initiatives that combine food access with workforce or economic opportunity.

What Conagra Looks for in Partners

The Foundation emphasizes the importance of partnership, collaboration, innovation, and measurable solutions.

Competitive organizations are likely to demonstrate:

  • Strong nonprofit leadership
  • A clear understanding of the community need
  • Innovative approaches rather than maintaining the status quo
  • Practical and viable solutions
  • Meaningful community impact
  • Strong alignment with food insecurity and nutrition priorities

Organizations should make the connection between their proposed project and Conagra’s core focus on addressing hunger particularly clear.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Based in the United States
  • Recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3)
  • Classified as an eligible public charity

Eligible public charity classifications include organizations under:

  • Section 509(a)(1)
  • Section 509(a)(2)
  • Section 509(a)(3) Type I
  • Section 509(a)(3) Type II
  • Section 509(a)(3) Type III

While applicants must be based in the United States, funded organizations may serve needs worldwide.

Organizations must also comply with Conagra Brands Foundation’s nondiscrimination requirements.

Ineligible Applicants

The Foundation does not provide Community Impact Grants to:

  • Individuals
  • Fiscal agents
  • Political campaigns
  • Organizations whose mission is to influence legislation
  • Religious organizations seeking to further a denominational or sectarian purpose

The restriction on fiscal agents is important for organizations that operate under fiscal sponsorship rather than holding their own eligible 501(c)(3) public charity status.

Funding Amounts

Conagra Brands Foundation does not publish a standard minimum, maximum, or typical Community Impact Grant amount.

Grant amounts may vary based on the organization, program scope, community impact, and available Foundation resources.

Applicants should develop a realistic project budget tied directly to the proposed activities rather than assuming a particular award level.

Letter of Intent Process

Nonprofit organizations based in the United States may submit one online Letter of Intent during the 2027 application window.

The LOI period is:

📅 January 1–January 31, 2027

Applicants must complete online registration and submit their LOI through Conagra Brands Foundation’s grant portal.

The Foundation reviews LOIs on a rolling basis during the application period.

If a proposed LOI is of interest, Foundation staff will notify the applicant by email and extend an invitation to complete a full application.

Full Application

Full applications are available by invitation only.

Organizations invited to continue will be asked to provide more comprehensive project information and supporting documentation.

Applicants should therefore use the initial LOI to clearly communicate:

  • The community need being addressed
  • The proposed program or project
  • Who will benefit
  • Expected outcomes
  • Alignment with Conagra’s food insecurity priorities
  • Why the organization is well positioned to carry out the work

Timeline & Review

📅 LOI Opens: January 1, 2027
📅 LOI Deadline: January 31, 2027
📅 LOI Review: Rolling during the application period
📅 Full Application: By invitation only

Because only one LOI may be submitted, organizations should identify their strongest and most closely aligned funding request before applying.

Application / Request Process

Applicants begin through the Conagra Brands Foundation online grant portal.

For the 2027 Community Impact Grant cycle:

  1. Register or log into the online system.
  2. Submit one Letter of Intent between January 1 and January 31, 2027.
  3. Clearly explain how the proposed work aligns with Conagra’s food insecurity priorities.
  4. Wait for Foundation review.
  5. If selected to continue, Foundation staff will notify the organization by email.
  6. Invited applicants then submit a full application with more detailed project information and documentation.

Why This Opportunity Is a Good Fit

This opportunity is a strong fit for nonprofits that:

  • Address hunger or food insecurity
  • Operate food pantries or food access programs
  • Provide nutrition education
  • Teach cooking and food preparation skills
  • Promote healthy and active lifestyles connected to nutrition
  • Operate community gardens or urban agriculture programs
  • Use agriculture or food-related programming to build entrepreneurial skills
  • Have an innovative solution to an established community need
  • Can demonstrate strong organizational leadership and measurable community impact

Because organizations may submit only one LOI during the January application window, applicants should prioritize the program or project that most clearly aligns with Conagra Brands Foundation’s focus on food insecurity.

Organizations working broadly in health, workforce development, or community development should make sure their proposal has a clear connection to food insecurity, nutrition, food access, or the farm-to-fork economy before applying.
