About the Funder
Established in 2023, the Designer Brands Foundation partners with DSW Inc., its brands, and associates to advance empowerment and remove barriers for individuals in diverse communities.
The Foundation’s mission is to help individuals put their best foot forward by investing in programs that create inclusive opportunities and measurable community impact.
Funding Priorities
Grants must align with the Foundation’s pillars:
Inclusion
Programs must demonstrate inclusive policies and practices across gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, and creed. No religious component may be required for participation.
Empowerment
Initiatives should help individuals overcome barriers and strengthen confidence, opportunity, and access.
Funding Criteria
Eligible organizations must:
- Be a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit
- Serve underserved communities near DSW locations
- Direct at least 70% of funds toward program beneficiaries
- Provide W-9, IRS determination letter, and program budget
- Demonstrate measurable community impact
- Maintain inclusive organizational policies
Nonprofits may receive only one grant per calendar year.
Grant Amounts
- New organizations: $5,000
- Previous grantees: $5,000–$10,000
- Do not request more than $10,000 unless directed
All grants are issued in U.S. dollars.
Ineligible Requests
The Foundation does not fund:
- Individuals or families
- Event sponsorships
- Scholarships
- Schools and school-related activities
- Religious or sectarian organizations
- Political organizations
- Social clubs or fraternal organizations
- Associate matching donations
- Publications or advertising
Application Process
The Designer Brands Foundation uses a fully digital application and reporting system.
- Applications must be submitted through the online grant form
- Email or paper applications are not accepted
