About the Funder
Through the HDR Foundation and its global philanthropic funds, HDR supports charitable organizations located in the communities where its employees live and work. As an employee-funded and employee-driven foundation, HDR’s grantmaking emphasizes meaningful employee engagement and projects that deliver measurable, long-term community impact.
Grant Focus Areas
Proposed projects must align with at least one of the following focus areas:
- Education
- Healthy Communities
- Environmental Stewardship
Projects should demonstrate quantifiable outcomes, sustainability beyond the grant term, and a clear community benefit.
Grant Amounts
- Awards of $5,000 or more
- Funding is limited to discrete, stand-alone projects with defined start and end dates
- Projects must be completed within 12 months
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, federally recognized tribal governments, educational institutions, or political subdivisions (e.g., school districts or libraries)
- A current HDR employee sponsor who has been engaged with the organization for at least one year
- A project with a clear scope of work, measurable outcomes, and detailed budget
- Activities that are sustainable beyond the grant period
⚠️ Applications without an HDR employee sponsor will not be considered.
What This Program Does Not Fund
HDR Foundation does not support:
- Faith-based or faith-affiliated organizations
- Grants to individuals or scholarships
- Operating or general support (including salaries or consultant fees)
- Advocacy or travel-related expenses
- Capital campaigns
- Sponsorships, conferences, events, or prizes
- Endowments, pass-through organizations, or community foundations
- Animal welfare organizations focused on domesticated animals
Required Application Materials
Applicants advancing beyond the LOI stage must submit:
- Completed HDR employee sponsor form and sponsor letter of support
- IRS determination letter and Form W-9
- Most recent audited financials or IRS Form 990
- Organization’s annual operating budget
- Completed itemized project budget (provided in the application system)
- Project summary, need statement, population served, and anticipated outcomes
