Small Grants Supporting Nonprofits Serving the Lakeland Electric Territory

Lakeland Electric offers an annual Community Giving Grant Program to support nonprofit organizations that improve quality of life for residents within the Lakeland Electric service territory. The program is designed to build strong, community-based partnerships and ensure equitable distribution of charitable support.

Details below reflect the Fiscal Year 2027 (Oct. 2026–Sept. 2027) grant cycle for planning purposes.

Lakeland Electric is the municipal electric utility for the City of Lakeland, Florida. Guided by its mission to provide safe, affordable, dependable, and sustainable electric service, Lakeland Electric invests in nonprofit organizations that deliver meaningful public benefit and strengthen community well-being within its service area.


What This Program Supports

Community Giving Grant funds are awarded to nonprofit organizations whose programs demonstrably improve the quality of life for the public within the Lakeland Electric territory. Funding decisions are made locally and competitively to maximize community impact.

Examples of supported activities include community-based programs, events, or initiatives that align with Lakeland Electric’s mission, vision, and values.


Eligibility & Key Requirements

  • Must be a State of Florida–registered nonprofit organization
  • Must serve the public within the Lakeland Electric territory
  • Organizations may receive up to $1,000 per year
  • Funding is competitive; requests exceed available funds
  • Selected organizations must submit a post-award report documenting how funds were used
    • Failure to submit a report makes the organization ineligible the following year

Applications are scored by a committee of Lakeland Electric employees and finalized by the General Manager or designee.


Review & Selection Process

  • Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • A committee of Lakeland Electric staff evaluates and ranks requests
  • Awards are made to the highest-scoring organizations until funds are exhausted
  • Decisions reflect local priorities, fairness, and public benefit
