Large Grants for High-Impact Community Programs in Northwest Oregon

The Spirit Mountain Community Fund offers Large Grants to support high-impact, community-based programs across its 11-county service area in Northwest Oregon. This competitive program is designed for organizations with the capacity to implement larger, well-developed initiatives that align with SMCF’s funding priorities and demonstrate measurable outcomes.

SMCF supports projects within six broad program areas:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Historic Preservation
  • Education
  • Environmental Preservation
  • Health
  • Public Safety

Priority consideration is given to projects aligned with:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Environmental Preservation

Funding Amounts & Grant Term

💰 Maximum Award: $50,000 (programmatic funding only)
⏱ Grant Term: 12 months
⚠️ Grant requests may not exceed 50% of the total project budget
📌 Projects must begin within 90 days of the grant start date
🚫 Projects already completed are not eligible


Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
  • Government agencies in Lane, Polk, Tillamook, and Yamhill counties
  • The nine federally recognized Tribes of Oregon

⚠️ Organizations may hold only one active SMCF grant at a time, except through the approved Small-to-Large Grant pathway.


Application Timeline (October 2026 Large Grant Deadline)

Large Grants follow a two-step process: Letter of Inquiry (LOI) → Full Application (by invitation).

📅 LOI Deadline: October 2, 2026
📅 Full Application Deadline: December 1, 2026
📅 Funding Notification: January 18, 2027
📅 Grant Start Date: March 3, 2027

  1. Submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) by the deadline
  2. If invited, complete a full application
  3. Demonstrate strong project design, organizational readiness, and community impact
