VyStar has deep roots in the military community. The credit union was founded in 1952 as Jax Navy Federal Credit Union at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

Mental Health & Wellness
Programs expanding access to mental health, wellness, and supportive services for active-duty military members, veterans, and their families.
Other Military Family Needs
Programs providing direct services and resources that improve stability, wellbeing, and quality of life for military-connected individuals and families.
Eligible Projects
VyStar Foundation provides grants to support specific nonprofit projects and programs that benefit the community and align with its strategic giving priorities.
Both pilot and ongoing programs may be considered.
The Foundation values organizations that demonstrate collaboration, leverage community resources, and develop creative approaches to addressing community challenges.
Eligibility & Preferences
Applicants must:
- Have tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) public charity
- Be located in or provide a benefit to communities within VyStar Credit Union’s service areas
- Align with VyStar Foundation’s Military strategic giving pillar
- Clearly demonstrate measurable community impact
- Explain how program outcomes will be measured, tracked, and reported
- Have at least one full year of program services and outcomes
Competitive proposals should demonstrate strong program design, measurable impact, financial stability, collaboration, and a plan for sustaining the work beyond VyStar Foundation funding.
Geographic Eligibility
Organizations must be located in or provide a benefit to communities within VyStar Credit Union’s service areas.
VyStar Foundation primarily serves eligible communities across Florida and Georgia.
Applicants should complete VyStar Foundation’s eligibility questionnaire to confirm that their organization and service area qualify before preparing an application.
Ineligible Requests
VyStar Foundation does not generally support:
- Religious denominations or congregations, although nonsectarian programs operated by religious organizations may be considered
- Political action committees, political causes, or candidates
- Organizations that discriminate
- Organizations presenting a potential conflict of interest involving VyStar employees, board members, or existing partners
- Organizations or activities that could pose a reputational risk to VyStar
- Multi-year grant requests

Applicants should review the 2027 Military Grant Cycle materials for the current funding range and any limits on individual requests before applying.

Organizations considering an application may benefit from attending one of the March information sessions before submitting their proposal.

Eligible nonprofits can submit an application through VyStar Foundation’s online grant system beginning March 1, 2027.
Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate:
- Alignment with VyStar’s Military giving priority
- A clearly defined community need
- Direct benefit to military members, veterans, or their families
- Measurable program outcomes
- Organizational and financial stability
- A strategy for sustaining the program
- Meaningful impact within an eligible VyStar community
