About the Funder

The We Energies Foundation invests in nonprofit organizations that strengthen communities across We Energies’ service territory. In 2024, the Foundation donated $11.5 million to nonprofits. Most charitable support is delivered through the We Energies Foundation, funded by WEC Energy Group shareholders. We Energies also matches employee charitable giving and conducts an annual workplace giving campaign for United Way.

We Energies welcomes funding requests aligned with the following focus areas:

  • Community & Neighborhood Development
  • Health & Human Services
  • Arts & Culture
  • Education
  • Environment

Support Types

  • Program or project funding (preferred)
  • Capital campaigns and event sponsorships
  • Limited general operating support
    • Note: Operating support is rare for individual United Way agencies already benefiting from We Energies’ United Way giving; however, United Way–supported organizations may apply for project, program, capital campaign, or event sponsorship funding.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
  • Be located within We Energies’ service area
  • Align with one or more of the funding priorities above

Additional Notes

  • Organizations may receive funding once per calendar year.
  • Financial support is limited to activities of tax-exempt nonprofits serving We Energies communities.

  • Individuals
  • Fraternal, religious, or political organizations
  • Trips, tours, pageants, or athletics
  • Team or extracurricular school events or student exchange programs
  • Organizations outside service areas (unless funding a specific project delivered directly to customer communities)
  • Organizations without IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) status
  • Organizations that discriminate on any basis (including race, color, religion, creed, age, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation)
  • Private foundations

Funding Amounts

We Energies Foundation does not publish standard award sizes. Grant amounts vary based on alignment, scope, organizational capacity, and available funding.


Timeline & Review

📅 Quarterly Deadlines: January 31, April 30, July 31, October 31
📩 Review Timeline: Requests are reviewed within 90 days of the next deadline; applicants are notified by email of outcomes and approved amounts.


Application Process

  • A new applicant portal will launch in 2026, enabling a single Blackbaud account to manage applications across funders.
  • Important: Application histories will not transfer to the new system; applicants should download prior submissions.
