About the Funder

AgWest Farm Credit is committed to improving the economic and social well-being of rural communities across the western United States. Through its Rural Community Grants program, AgWest supports creative and collaborative approaches that strengthen infrastructure, increase opportunity, and enhance quality of life in rural areas.

The program prioritizes projects that contribute to a community’s long-term viability and prosperity.


What This Program Supports

Rural Community Grants provide funding for nonprofit-led projects that improve rural communities. Eligible uses include:

  • Building or improving facilities
  • Purchasing equipment for local programs
  • Capital improvements that enhance infrastructure
  • Investments that support community development and resilience

Example Projects

  • Fire engine for a rural fire department
  • Multi-purpose community building
  • Improvements to community park facilities
  • Computers for educational programs at a community center

Funding Amounts

  • Maximum request: $5,000
  • Average award: $500–$2,500
  • Organizations may receive funding once per calendar year

Timeline & Review

📅 Applications are reviewed monthly
📅 Final deadline for 2026 requests: December 15, 2026
📅 Program reopens: January 4, 2027

There is no fixed monthly cutoff date published, but applicants are encouraged to apply well in advance of project timelines.

Eligible Applicants

  • Nonprofit organizations serving rural communities within:
    • Alaska
    • Arizona
    • California
    • Idaho
    • Montana
    • Oregon
    • Washington

Application Requirements

  • Online grant submission
  • A letter of support from a current AgWest employee or active AgWest customer
  • Evidence of financial backing from other sources
  • If selected, submission of a W-9 or IRS determination letter

  • Fundraising events or benefit dinners
  • Travel expenses
  • Sports team or camp sponsorships
  • Deficits, loans, or debt retirement
