Alliant Energy Foundation focuses its Community Grants on four strategic areas:
Hunger and Housing
Support may include programs related to:
- Clothing and household needs
- Baby essentials such as cribs, car seats, and diapers
- Food pantry support
- Food delivery and meal outreach
- School and backpack nutrition programs
- Emergency food
- Farm-to-table efforts
- Emergency shelter
- Transitional and permanent housing
- Housing for people with disabilities
- Homelessness prevention
- Case management assistance
- Transportation assistance, including bus passes and ride share support
Workforce Readiness
Support may include programs related to:
- Youth agriculture, including FFA and 4-H
- School gardens
- Farm education and innovation
- County fairs
- Libraries and bookmobiles
- After-school and summer reading
- Adult literacy
- Financial and digital literacy
- STEM programming, workshops, festivals, and classroom grants
- Career exploration and job training
- Employment skills for disadvantaged youth
- Employment support for people with disabilities
- School-to-career programs
- Energy industry programs
- Youth leadership and mentoring
- Anti-bullying programs
- YMCA and other youth development programs
Environmental Stewardship
Support may include programs related to:
- Wildlife space protection
- Tree and prairie planting
- Habitat creation and protection
- Water cleanup
- Environmental education
- Public workshops and school programs on environmental issues
- Endangered species and wildlife protection
- City park improvements such as benches, signs, and picnic tables
- Trail enhancements such as benches, signs, picnic tables, garden beds, and maintenance
Community Safety and Engagement
Support may include programs related to:
- First responder equipment, such as thermal cameras, gas monitors, fire gear, and AEDs
- Community festivals, fairs, holiday lights, and parades
- Playground updates in public parks
- Disaster readiness and relief for natural disasters, fires, and pandemics
Eligible Support Types
Alliant Energy Foundation prefers to support specific programs, projects, or initiatives rather than general annual support. Eligible requests may include community programs, direct service projects, equipment needs, park and trail enhancements, educational programs, youth development initiatives, and safety-related community investments.
Eligibility & Preferences
Funds are available only to organizations located within communities served by Alliant Energy.
Organizations are eligible for one grant per calendar year. Past support does not guarantee future funding, and applicants should not rely on repeat annual donations.
Alliant Energy Foundation prefers online applications through its CyberGrants portal.
Ineligible Requests
Alliant Energy Foundation does not fund:
- Political activity, directly or indirectly
- Energy-related projects, including solar panels, generators, lighting, heating, or other items related to Alliant Energy’s core business
- Religious institutions or organizations primarily promoting a specific faith, creed, religion, or ideology, unless the project is through a separate 501(c)(3)
- Organizations that discriminate based on age, race, creed, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or national origin
- Contributions to individuals or for-profit businesses
- Intermediary or third-party funding groups that raise money to distribute to other charities
- Fraternal or social clubs
- Body cameras, riot gear, tasers, or K-9 service dogs
- Animal welfare agencies or animal training services
- Athletes, teams, sporting events, or tournaments
- Swimming pools or splashpads
- Registration or participation fees for fundraising events
- Golf outings or run/walk events
- Books, magazines, or professional journal articles
- Computers, laptops, or tablets
- Post-prom events or booster club programs
- Community welcome signs
- Individual troops or clubs
Funding Amounts
Alliant Energy Foundation does not publish a standard grant range for all Community Grants. Funding varies by project type, community need, and alignment with the Foundation’s giving priorities.
For certain categories, standard funding amounts are noted:
- First responder equipment: standard funding of $1,000
- Playground updates in public parks: standard funding of $1,000
Timeline & Review
Alliant Energy Foundation accepts applications year-round and reviews Community Grant requests three times per year.
