Eligibility & Funding Criteria
To be eligible for funding, organizations must:
- Qualify under Section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Hold 501(c)(3) nonprofit status
- Be located in or have significant operations in North Alabama
- Reapply annually (funding is not guaranteed year to year)
- Be in good financial standing and have held nonprofit status for at least two years
Grant proposals may be funded in full, in part, or declined. Organizations that fail to submit receipts validating prior ECF grant expenditures will be automatically declined.
Ineligible Requests
The Alabama ECF Chapter does not fund:
- Religious organizations for the purpose of furthering religious doctrine
- General operating expenses
- Travel expenses or vehicles for staff
- Walk-a-thons, athletic events, or recreational sponsorships
- Hospitals or medical research
- Advertising, fundraising events, tickets, raffles, or promotional items
- Debt reduction or reimbursement for previously purchased items
- Primarily tax-supported organizations
- Gifts, honoraria, memorials, or endowments
- National fund drives
- Capital campaigns
Application Process
All applicants must apply through Boeing’s online grant application system. Hard-copy submissions will not be accepted. Applications are accepted only during the official application window; submissions outside this period will be declined and ineligible until the next calendar year.
The electronic application includes a grant proposal and written agreement and requires:
- Organizational mission and governing board information
- Disclosure of top five highest-paid staff members
- Breakdown of funding sources and operating budget
- Detailed project description, community need, expected outcomes, and number of beneficiaries
Required documentation:
- Organization operating budget
- IRS Form 990 and/or audited financial statements
- Project budget
- IRS determination letter
Organizations that have never applied for a Boeing or ECF grant must request system access by contacting ECFofBoeingAlabama@boeing.com.
