About the Funder

Canadian National Railway (CN) is a leading transportation and logistics company operating across North America. Through its Community Investments Program, CN contributes millions of dollars annually to nonprofit organizations and initiatives that strengthen communities along its rail network.

CN’s approach is place-based—tailoring support to reflect the unique needs of each community while advancing safety, well-being, and environmental sustainability.

What This Program Supports

CN provides both donations and sponsorships to nonprofits aligned with its three core focus areas:

Safety

  • Health and wellness programs (including mental health)
  • Injury prevention and trauma care initiatives
  • First responder training and services
  • Safety research and innovation
  • Cultural safety initiatives

People

  • Youth education, especially in skilled trades
  • Inclusion and equity-focused initiatives
  • Cultural institutions and community events
  • Emergency disaster relief
  • Food insecurity programs

Environment

  • Climate change mitigation efforts
  • Clean water, biodiversity, and forest sustainability
  • Land conservation initiatives
  • Carbon reduction and circular economy programs

Eligible Support Types

  • Cash donations (programmatic or general support)
  • Sponsorships for events and initiatives
  • In-kind donations (by request, outside the standard application process)

Note:

  • Sponsorships are transactional and may include brand visibility and event benefits
  • Donations are charitable gifts and may be eligible for tax receipts
