About the Foundation
Through the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, as well as EnergyShare® and other programs, Dominion Energy supports the communities where its customers and employees live and work.
In 2024, Dominion Energy invested $46.3 million in its communities, including $16.5 million through the Charitable Foundation and employee giving programs.
Funding Focus Areas
The Foundation awards grants in four primary areas:
- Basic Human Needs
- Community Vitality
- Education
- Environmental Stewardship
Eligible organizations typically focus on education, environment, culture and the arts, civic and community development, and health and human services.
Eligibility Requirements
Grant support is available to:
- 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
- Organizations located in geographic areas where Dominion Energy provides electricity or natural gas service or has significant facilities/business interests, including:
- Virginia
- South Carolina
- Northeastern North Carolina (electric service areas only)
- Connecticut (Hartford, Windham, Tolland, Middlesex, and New London Counties)
- Rhode Island (Kent and Washington Counties)
- West Virginia (Grant and Tucker Counties)
Important Note:
Following utility acquisitions by Enbridge in 2024, the Foundation no longer makes grants in Ohio, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, or most of North Carolina gas territories. Grants continue only in northeastern North Carolina where Dominion Energy remains the electric service provider.
Ineligible Requests
The Foundation does not fund:
- Individuals
- Organizations without 501(c)(3) status (including those with a fiscal sponsor)
- Religious programs of churches or sectarian organizations
- Political, advocacy, labor, or fraternal organizations
- Utility payments to Dominion Energy or its subsidiaries
- Tangible benefits such as event tickets
- Advertising or courtesy sponsorships
- Memorial campaigns
- Organizations outside of designated service areas
- Organizations that limit membership or services based on protected characteristics

- Most awards range from $1,000 to $15,000
- Larger grants may be awarded for exceptional program alignment
- Highly competitive process; funding requests often exceed available budget
