Eligibility Requirements
Grant funding is available only to:
- U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
- Organizations in good standing with applicable state authorities and the IRS
Additional requirements include:
- No multi-year grant commitments
- Funds may not be used retroactively
- Previous GM grantees must complete all required reporting before being reconsidered
Ineligible Requests
GM will not consider LOIs for:
- Capital campaigns, endowments, or private buildings
- Faith-based organizations for religious purposes
- Government or tax-supported entities, including colleges and universities
- Individual K–12 schools, school districts, or school clubs/teams
- Hospitals or medical-related facilities
- Other foundations for endowment-building purposes
- Political candidates, campaigns, or organizations
- Private clubs, fraternities, or sororities
- Robotics, sports, race teams, or athletic scholarships
- Individual requests (e.g., personal scholarships)
- Vehicle donations or requests to purchase vehicles
- Organizations that do not share GM’s values or that unlawfully discriminate
GM reserves the right to determine final eligibility.
Funding Amounts
GM does not publish a standard funding range. Grant amounts are evaluated on a case-by-case basis based on:
- Project scope and need
- Alignment with GM priorities
- Available funding
Timeline & Review
📅 LOI Deadline: September 30 (annually)
📅 Review Period: Allow up to 8 weeks for review
📅 Notification: GM will contact applicants directly if additional information is needed
No LOIs are accepted after the annual September 30 deadline.
