The Sun Club® program from Green Mountain Energy Company supports U.S.-based nonprofits that are ready to plant seeds of sustainability in their communities. Beyond funding, selected organizations gain access to a network of sustainability experts and collaborative marketing support to amplify their impact.

What This Program Supports
The Sun Club® funds projects that produce clear and measurable sustainability outcomes. Proposals should demonstrate:
Environmental Impact
Examples may include:
- CO₂ prevented (renewable vs. traditional generation)
- Miles not driven
- Gallons of water conserved
- Green space created
- Pounds of waste diverted
Social Impact
Examples may include:
- Students reached through sustainability curriculum
- Community members engaged through tours or programming
- Media or public engagement metrics
Financial Impact
Examples may include:
- Operational savings (e.g., solar energy reducing electricity costs)
- How cost savings directly expand mission impact (e.g., more meals distributed, more students served)
If approved, Green Mountain Energy works closely with grantees on project timelines and a coordinated marketing/PR strategy.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a nonprofit organization benefiting communities in eligible ZIP codes in:
- Texas
- Pennsylvania
- Illinois
- New Jersey
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Hold at least three years of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), (4), (6), or (19)
- Provide three years of Form 990 filings and a W-9
- Demonstrate:
- Minimum $250,000 in annual revenue for the past three years
- At least $100,000 raised through public support
Ineligible Applicants
The Sun Club® does not fund:
- For-profit entities
- Political organizations
- Religious organizations
Application Process
- Complete the online eligibility questionnaire.
- Email sunclub@greenmountain.com.
- If eligible, Green Mountain Energy will schedule an introductory call.
Complete applications are reviewed quarterly. Applicants are notified by email after each review cycle.
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Proposals are evaluated based on where funding can create the greatest environmental, social, and financial return.
