Funding Types Available
When applying, organizations may request one or more of the following:
- Cash Donation – philanthropic support without commercial incentive
- Sponsorship – philanthropic support with commercial incentive
- Hy-Vee Gift Card
- In-Kind Product or Services Support
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for funding, organizations must:
- Align with at least one of Hy-Vee’s three giving pillars
- Be a permanent, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization (or international equivalent)
- Provide financial statements from the previous year
- Not be a private foundation
- Submit only one approved request per fiscal year (duplicate requests are deferred to the next fiscal year)
Collaboration with local Hy-Vee stores or employees is encouraged but not required.
Review & Approval Process
Hy-Vee uses a community-centered review model based on scope and scale:
Local Support
- Requests with localized impact are encouraged to connect with the nearest Hy-Vee store
- Local store teams help assess and address community-specific needs
Corporate Review
- Requests with multi-community reach or exceeding certain funding thresholds are reviewed by Hy-Vee’s corporate charitable giving team
- The Hy-Vee Board of Directors reviews and votes on eligible donation requests within Hy-Vee’s trade area

Event & Capital Campaign Requests
Requests for events or capital campaigns must be submitted at least 90 days prior to the event or need date.
Capital Campaign Guidelines:
- Campaign must align with Hy-Vee’s business objectives
- Requested amount generally should not exceed:
- 20% of funds raised from the business community, or
- 5% of total campaign funds raised from all sources
- Applications must include:
- List of committed and requested funding sources
- Percentage breakdown of public and private contributions
- Feasibility study documentation, if conducted
Funding Restrictions
Hy-Vee does not provide funding for:
- Requests benefiting individuals or families
- Travel or conference expenses for nonprofit employees
- Memorials, endowments, or annual campaigns
- Fraternal, labor, or social organizations
- Political candidates, campaigns, or organizations
- Religious teaching or religious purposes
- Deficit reduction campaigns
- Organizations that discriminate based on protected characteristics
