About the Funder
Land O’Lakes, Inc. and the Land O’Lakes Foundation are dedicated to serving the rural and urban communities where the cooperative has members, employees, plants, and facilities. The Foundation focuses its giving on organizations dedicated to hunger relief, advancing education, and community vitality.
Through the Region Grants Program, Land O’Lakes supports grassroots nonprofit efforts in dairy communities within its East and West Regions. The program is designed to improve the vibrancy of primarily rural communities through local program and project support.
What This Program Supports
The May grant round focuses on Community Vitality. Eligible organizations may request support committed to strengthening community resources and opportunities, especially in rural areas in eligible Land O’Lakes member-owner communities.
Examples of eligible Community Vitality efforts may include:
4-H, FFA, and ag education programs
Schools and educational institutions
City improvement projects
Fire/Ambulance departments
Local United Way chapters
Economic development programs
Funding is intended for local programs or projects supporting Land O’Lakes member-owner rural communities and their populations.
Eligible Applicants
Organizations must:
Have current 501(c)(3) public charity tax-exempt status, or be a school or unit of government
Align with Land O’Lakes’ giving priorities of hunger relief, education, and community
Primarily serve an eligible Land O’Lakes dairy member-owner region
Support local programs or projects benefiting eligible communities
A referral from a Land O’Lakes member-owner may enhance an application but is not required.
Eligible Geographic Areas
The Region Grants Program is specifically for Land O’Lakes dairy communities in the East and West Regions of its member footprint.
East Region:
Delaware
Maryland
New Jersey
New York
Pennsylvania, primarily rural counties and excluding nonprofits primarily focused on serving the Philadelphia area
West Region:
California, limited to the following counties:
Tulare County
Kings County
Fresno County
Glenn County
Riverside County
Organizations supporting rural communities in the Land O’Lakes member-owner footprint are prioritized.
Rural Community Priority
This grant is intended to support the vibrancy of rural communities. Applicants headquartered in rural towns with fewer than 50,000 residents are welcome to apply.
Organizations located in towns or small cities with populations of 50,000 to 200,000 may also be eligible if they are not suburbs of a larger urban area and are located in a primarily rural county.
Funding Amounts
Organizations may apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $20,000.
Program guidelines indicate:
$125,000 is awarded to both the East and West Regions per grant round
Total annual program investment is $500,000
Generally, 10–20 grantees are funded per grant round
The average grant award is typically between $5,000 and $10,000
Not all requests will receive funding.
Ineligible Requests
Land O’Lakes, Inc. and the Land O’Lakes Foundation do not support grants, sponsorships, or in-kind donations for:
Direct funding to individuals, including fundraisers or scholarships for individuals
Trade or business associations
Political, lobbying, or fraternal groups
Religious groups for religious activities
Labor organizations
Organizations inconsistent with Land O’Lakes policies
Programs or projects that do not align with Land O’Lakes Foundation’s mission

Applications are reviewed by a Grant Selection Committee after the close of the grant round. All applicants will be notified once final decisions have been made.

Eligible nonprofit organizations may apply during the open Hunger Relief grant round. Applicants should be prepared to describe:
The organization’s mission and nonprofit status
The local hunger relief program or project
The rural community or eligible region served
How the project supports food access or reduces food insecurity
The requested grant amount
Any connection to Land O’Lakes member-owner communities
