Eligible Support Types

Eligibility Requirements

Organizations applying must:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) public charity listed in the IRS Master File
  • Operate within Norfolk Southern rail network territory
  • Be located within approximately 30 miles of a Norfolk Southern main rail line (organizations closest to the rail line may receive priority)
  • Propose a project aligned with the company’s focus areas: Sustainability, Workforce Development, or Thriving Communities

Ineligible Requests

Norfolk Southern does not fund:

  • Organizations located outside the Norfolk Southern service territory
  • General operating support requests (salaries, rent, utilities, overhead)
  • Projects involving Norfolk Southern property
  • Organizations without 501(c)(3) status
  • Individuals or organizations supporting individuals
  • Political or lobbying organizations
  • Religious organizations that do not serve the broader community
  • Fraternal organizations
  • Fundraising events or sponsorships (e.g., races, benefits, telethons)
  • Sports teams or athletic organizations
  • Chambers of commerce or civic leagues
  • Organizations with national or international program scope
