Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, school, government agency, or tribal organization

  • Serve communities within NorthWestern Energy’s service areas

  • Demonstrate clear community benefit

  • Align with at least one of the giving priorities

Not typically funded:

  • Individuals

  • Political organizations

  • Religious programs not serving the broader public

  • Organizations outside the service area


Funding Amounts

NorthWestern Energy does not disclose standard award ranges.
Funding levels vary based on:

  • Project scope

  • Community need

  • Expected impact

  • Alignment with corporate priorities

Both small local sponsorships and larger community grants may be awarded.


Deadline

Applications are accepted year-round.
Submit requests at least 60 days before funding is needed or before a scheduled event.


Geographic Focus

Funding is limited to communities served by NorthWestern Energy in:

  • Montana

  • South Dakota

  • Nebraska

Applicants MUST operate within these areas to be eligible.
