About the Funder

The Salem Five Charitable Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that are making a positive, measurable impact in the communities Salem Five serves. With contributions to more than 500 organizations annually, the Foundation is committed to helping build vibrant, resilient communities and ensuring viable futures—particularly for low- to moderate-income individuals and families.

Requests are made through the Community Donations Program and reviewed monthly on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year.


Foundation Funding Priorities

While all requests receive careful consideration, priority is given to programs aligned with the following core areas:

Economic Self-Sufficiency

Programs that help low- and moderate-income individuals and families achieve stability and independence, including initiatives that support basic needs, stability, and long-term self-reliance.

Workforce Development

Efforts that help individuals gain skills, credentials, and access to family-supporting careers, including:

  • Career exploration, training, and placement
  • Job-readiness and life skills development
  • Small business growth and entrepreneurship programs

Financial Literacy

Programs that promote effective financial management and access to financial tools, including:

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, organizations must:

  • Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit
  • Demonstrate significant local impact
  • Align with one or more Foundation focus areas
  • Primarily serve low- to moderate-income individuals and families within Salem Five’s community footprint

Additional guidelines:

  • Organizations may receive funding once per calendar year
  • Requests are not reviewed until all required documentation is submitted
  • To receive funds by year-end, applications must be submitted by November 15

Ineligible Requests

The Foundation does not typically fund:

  • Individuals or scholarships
  • Animal-related causes
  • Major capital or endowment campaigns
  • Travel (conferences, seminars, tours, student trips)
  • Political organizations or candidates
  • Religious activities, discriminatory organizations, or individual endeavors

All requests must be submitted electronically and include:

  • Salem Five Charitable Request Form
  • 501(c)(3) documentation or W-9
  • Event or program details related to the request

Paper submissions, letters of inquiry, and email requests are not accepted.
