2 Min Read

Equipment Grants Supporting School Nutrition & Student Health

The Whole Foods Market Foundation, in partnership with Salad Bars to Schools, offers Salad Bar Grants to help U.S. schools provide students with daily access to fresh fruits and vegetables. This equipment grant supports healthier school meals and long-term improvements to children’s nutrition.

Organization: Whole Foods Market Foundation
Support Type: Equipment grants
Geographic Focus: United States
Grant Type: Salad bar equipment

About the Funder

The Whole Foods Market Foundation is dedicated to improving children’s nutrition and supporting healthier food systems. Through its School Food Transformation work, the Foundation invests in programs that increase access to fresh, nutritious food and help schools build sustainable, health-forward meal programs.

What This Program Supports

Through the Salad Bars to Schools initiative, this grant provides:

  • One freestanding, mobile salad bar
  • Chill pads, pans, and tongs
  • Access to salad bar–specific training modules through the Chef Ann Foundation’s School Food Institute

Salad bars allow students to choose fresh fruits and vegetables daily and are fully compatible with federally reimbursed school lunch programs.

Why Salad Bars Matter

  • Students with access to school salad bars consume 36% more fruits and vegetables (CDC)
  • Each salad bar can serve a school for up to 10 years
  • Salad bars are a cost-effective, long-term investment in student health

Funding Amount

💰 Grant Value: $4,560 per school
This covers the full cost of one complete, ready-to-use salad bar system.
